Nayax reader has no signal

Troubleshoot SIM provisioning, antenna placement, and APN settings.

Updated Feb 9, 2026

Overview

Confirm the SIM is active in the Nayax portal and that the device shows an assigned data plan. Check APN settings and reboot the reader after any changes.

Re-seat the antenna and move it outside metal panels if possible. Vending cabinets can shield cellular signal and drop the reader offline.

Test the reader outside the cabinet to confirm signal strength. If it connects externally but not inside, use an external antenna or relocate the reader.

Portal checks

  • Verify the device is not suspended or past due.
  • Confirm the reader is assigned to the correct account.
  • Check last heartbeat time to determine when it went offline.

Device actions

  • Power cycle the reader and reseat the SIM.
  • Inspect antenna cable for kinks or damage.
  • Test signal with the cabinet door open to reduce shielding.

Escalation info

  • Provide SIM ICCID and IMEI to support.
  • Document signal strength readings by location.
  • Include photos of the antenna placement.

Expanded guidance

  • Confirm all steps are documented so the next technician can reproduce the results.
  • Capture before/after metrics (errors cleared, sales restored, or uptime improved).
  • Review machine, reader, or route settings to ensure they match location standards.

Common pitfalls

  • Skipping a controlled test leads to false positives.
  • Updating hardware without documenting configuration changes.
  • Forgetting to verify payout, refund, or reconciliation data after changes.

Next-step checklist

  • Run a final test with known-good inputs.
  • Log the outcome with date, time, and device identifiers.
  • Schedule a follow-up check if the location has high traffic or seasonal demand.
